George Holani Competing for No. 3 job
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 9:28 PM
Holani is competing for the No. 3 running back job after Kenny McIntosh suffered a torn ACL on Monday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Seahawks selected Damien Martinez in the seventh round of this year's draft, but Holani ran with the second team during Tuesday's practice while Martinez worked with the third team. One of the two is likely to land the No. 3 role behind Kenneth Walker -- who didn't practice Tuesday -- and Zach Charbonnet, although Jacardia Wright and D.K. Kaufman are also in the mix. Holani rushed three times for 10 yards through five games as a rookie in 2024.

Damien Martinez Seeking No. 3 role

Martinez is competing for the No. 3 running back role after Kenny McIntosh suffered a torn ACL on Monday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: A seventh-round rookie, Martinez had a chance to push McIntosh for the role anyway, and now he's now competing for the role with George Holani, Jacardia Wright and D.K. Kaufman. Martinez entered the NFL after three standout college seasons where he compiled 3,169 yards and 26 touchdowns on the ground across three seasons between Miami and Oregon State. With Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet healthy to start training camp, there are limited offensive reps available, but Martinez could carve out a role as a pass-catcher, something he showed modest improvement on as a junior with 17 catches (22 targets) for 204 yards through 13 games.
Kenny McIntosh
Kenny McIntosh Placed on IR
Mon, Jul 28, 2025, 2:18 PM
The Seahawks placed McIntosh (knee) on injured reserve Monday, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
Analysis: McIntosh was trying to defend his role from last year as the team's No. 3 running back, but his season will end before it started due to an ACL tear in the opening days of training camp. Damien Martinez and George Holani are now the favorites for the No. 3 job behind Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet.
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo Competing with AJ Barner
Mon, Jul 28, 2025, 10:38 AM
Arroyo is thriving as a pass catcher early in training camp, but AJ Barner's blocking makes him the favorite to replace Noah Fant as Seattle's starting tight end, according to Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune.
Analysis: Barner, a 2024 fourth-round pick, was Seattle's No. 2 tight end for most of his rookie season. Fant's recent release gives both Barner and Arroyo a big opportunity, especially because new Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is expected to shift the team toward more heavy packages with multiple tight ends and/or a fullback. Arroyo, a rookie second-round pick, could earn a role as the top tight end for passing situations even if he isn't a starter, given that he's faster and more explosive than Barner. The Seahawks also have blocking specialist Eric Saubert competing for a role, although he probably won't be much of a threat for snaps in single-TE formations.
Kenny McIntosh
Kenny McIntosh May have torn ACL
Sat, Jul 26, 2025, 5:27 PM
McIntosh (knee) likely tore an ACL during practice Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Further testing needs to be done to confirm McIntosh's diagnosis, but the initial expectation is that the third-year RB suffered a major knee injury. If he did indeed tear an ACL, McIntosh would almost certainly need to miss the entire 2025 campaign. That would be a blow both to Seattle's running-back corps -- McIntosh was slated to be the team's No. 3 RB -- and to its special-teams unit, as he was expected to work as a kick returner as well. If McIntosh is unable to play this year, seventh-round rookie Damien Martinez could be asked to take on the third-RB role behind Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, while Steven Sims could handle lead kick-return duties.

Kenny McIntosh Suffers leg injury
Sat, Jul 26, 2025, 3:54 PM
McIntosh suffered a leg injury during Seattle's practice Saturday, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: McIntosh had to be helped off the field after suffering a leg injury during a special-teams drill. The 25-year-old was unable to put any weight on his left leg following the injury. Should he be forced to miss extended time, Steven Sims could take over his role as the team's primary kick returner.
Zach Charbonnet
Zach Charbonnet Sharing backfield with Walker again
Thu, Jul 24, 2025, 8:38 AM
Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker give Seattle backfield continuity in an otherwise revamped offense, ESPN.com's Brady Henderson reports.
Analysis: Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, QB Geno Smith, and WRs DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are out, replaced by Klint Kubiak, Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, respectively. Seattle's backfield, on the other hand, looks the same as last year, with Walker and Charbonnet atop the depth chart while Kenny McIntosh fends off competition for the No. 3 job. There have been some beat-writer whispers about Charbonnet potentially challenging Walker for the starting job under a new coaching staff, although nobody from the Seahawks has said anything to that effect.
Kenneth Walker
Kenneth Walker Back to 100 percent
Wed, Jul 23, 2025, 5:45 PM
Coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday that Walker (ankle) was a full practice participant to begin training camp, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. "He looks great. He's in a great spot mentally," Macdonald added. "Awesome to see him do all the things we want him to do from the get-go. I know he's really excited about what's going on. Great first day with Ken."
Analysis: Walker managed just one appearance (Week 16) over the final five regular-season games of the 2024 campaign due to an ankle injury, which also limited him during the offseason program. Now that he's back to 100 percent, the three-year pro can focus on maintaining a foothold on the No. 1 spot on the running back depth chart for the Seahawks. In the 11 contests in which both he and backup Zach Charbonnet played last year, the former racked up 199 touches to the latter's 67, a breakdown that should remain similar as long as both players are healthy.
Sam Darnold
Sam Darnold Starting QB heading into camp
Wed, Jul 23, 2025, 9:57 AM
Darnold will take the first-team quarterback reps when training camp starts Wednesday, and there isn't a quarterback competition with rookie third-round pick Jalen Milroe, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: This sentiment has been echoed by multiple Seahawks beat writers as well as head coach Mike McDonald. Milroe is an intriguing prospect with massive upside, specifically with his running ability and arm strength, but his accuracy remains a significant question mark and will need time to develop. Regardless, Darnold signed a three-year, $100.5 million contract with $55 million guaranteed this offseason after revitalizing his career with the Vikings in 2024, throwing for 4,319 yards (7.9 YPA), 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Darnold enjoyed throwing behind one of the league's best offensive lines last season, but there are serious question marks about Seattle's young offensive line. Furthermore, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and an aging Cooper Kupp don't provide the same explosiveness as Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, making this a true prove-it year. Still, Darnold's production was so strong last season that he could live up to his contract expectations even if he regresses a bit.
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo Door to starting job opens
Mon, Jul 21, 2025, 7:43 AM
Arroyo will compete with AJ Barner for the starting tight end job after the Seahawks released Noah Fant on Sunday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: A rookie second-round pick, Arroyo was going to be in the mix for the starting job regardless, but Fant's departure opens the door further. Arroyo (6-foot-5, 254 pounds) struggled with knee injuries during his second and third seasons at Miami before reeling in 35 passes for 590 yards and seven touchdowns in his final collegiate campaign. He didn't test at the NFL Combine or pro day due to a knee injury, but he's considered a standout athlete anyway. Barner is considered a better blocker and held his own as a rookie, starting six of 17 games and finishing with a 30-245-4 line. According to Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic, Arroyo impressed at rookie minicamp with his ability to challenge safeties with his size and speed. There's probably room for both tight ends to have significant roles in this offense, but for fantasy purposes, Arroyo has the more compelling upside.
AJ Barner
AJ Barner Opportunity awaits
Mon, Jul 21, 2025, 6:59 AM
Barner will compete with rookie Elijah Arroyo for the starting tight end job after the Seahawks released Noah Fant on Sunday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: The Seahawks selected Arroyo in the second round of April's draft and signed Eric Saubert this offseason, allowing them the flexibility to move on from Fant with one year left on his deal. A 2024 fourth-round pick, Barner started six games as a rookie and finished with 30 receptions for 245 yards and four touchdowns over 17 games. Barner will face stiff competition from Arroyo for the starting job in 2025. Arroyo is likely the better athlete of the two and should eventually command more attention in the passing game, but Barner will look to leverage his experience to hold off the newcomer.
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo Inks deal with Seahawks
Fri, Jul 18, 2025, 12:43 PM
Arroyo signed his four-year rookie deal with the Seahawks on Friday, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Arroyo's $8.81 million deal includes $6.87 million fully guaranteed. While Condotta notes that the tight end, who was taken in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 50th overall, is expected is expected to earn substantial playing time as a rookie, steady volume may be an issue for the 6-foot-5, 254-pounder out of Miami with veteran returnees Noah Fant and AJ Barner also in Seattle's TE mix.
Kenneth Walker
Kenneth Walker Continues to deal with ankle injury
Tue, Jun 10, 2025, 5:50 PM
Coach Mike Macdonald said Tuesday that Walker has been limited during the offseason program due to an ankle injury, but the running back "should be fine," Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports
Analysis: Walker tended to an ankle issue down the stretch of last season, making just one appearance (Week 16) over the final five contests before landing on injured reserve. Through three pro campaigns, he's missed time in each one, missing 3.3 games annually, but when he's been able to suit up, he's averaged 79.3 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring 26 touchdowns in 41 regular-season games. The Seahawks have a pair of OTAs remaining this week (Wednesday/Thursday) and mandatory minicamp on deck (next Tuesday through Thursday), so Walker has a few more chances to mix into drills fully before the team's month-plus break before training camp in late July. Zach Charbonnet should continue to handle first-team reps for as long as Walker isn't 100 percent.
Kenneth Walker
Kenneth Walker On field for OTAs
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 9:40 AM
Walker (ankle) is participating in Seattle's voluntary OTAs, per the team's official site.
Analysis: Walker is pictured among teammates participating in the Seahawks' second week of OTAs, which began Monday. Now healthy and heading into the final year of his rookie deal, Walker's situation in Seattle's backfield remains familiar. If he can avoid the injury bug and stay 100 percent healthy, something Walker has struggled to accomplish through his first three seasons in the NFL, he looks entrenched as the starter ahead of Zach Charbonnet. The arrival of new starting quarterback Sam Darnold could allow this offense to take a step forward in 2025, while new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's scheme, which focuses on zone rushes, is an ideal fit for Walker's tough running style and explosiveness. Health remains the most pivotal factor in prognosticating Walker, but if he's able to break the pattern of lower-body injuries hampering him, it won't be surprising if the 2022 second-round pick outperforms his ADP in 2025 fantasy drafts.
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo Past knee issue
Fri, May 2, 2025, 6:24 PM
Arroyo said Friday that he is no longer dealing with the knee injury that limited him leading up to the NFL Draft, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The knee issue prevented Arroyo from running the 40 at either the NFL Combine or his pro day, though Seattle was able to estimate him at 4.52/4.53 based on his GPS speeds. The injury didn't deter the Seahawks from drafting the big tight end out of Miami in the second round (50th overall), however, making him the fifth tight end off the board. Arroyo has a chance to carve out a significant role in the team's offense, especially if he can have a big training camp -- while Noah Fant tallied a respectable 500 receiving yards on 48 catches during the regular season last year, he has only one touchdown reception over the past two campaigns.
Noah Fant
Noah Fant Competition arrives via draft
Mon, Apr 28, 2025, 6:32 AM
Fant could face competition for the starting job after the Seahawks selected Elijah Arroyo (knee) in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Analysis: A 2019 first-round pick, Fant's career has never truly taken off, as his best marks for receiving were in 2020 when he posted a 62-673-3 line, and he has scored just one touchdown over the past two seasons with the Seahawks. Thus, it's not surprising that the Seahawks addressed tight end early in the draft after also taking AJ Barner in the fourth round last year. Arroyo may take some time to develop, but he looks like the Seahawks' long-term plan at the position.
Drew Lock
Drew Lock Faces competition for backup job
Sun, Apr 27, 2025, 5:58 PM
Lock will face competition for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Sam Darnold after the Seahawks selected Jalen Milroe in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft
Analysis: For a brief moment the Seahawks had three capable backups in their quarterback room, but they traded Sam Howell to the Vikings on Day 3 of the draft. Thus, Lock will need to earn the No. 2 job in his second stint with the Seahawks. Milroe has unique tools for the position, showcasing 4.4 speed and a marvelous deep ball, while Lock has experience on his side and is one of the better backups in the league.
Sam Howell
Sam Howell Receiving trade interest
Fri, Apr 18, 2025, 8:21 PM
The Seahawks have received trade inquiries about Howell and are open to trading him, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Howell served as Seattle's backup last season and threw just 14 passes behind the mostly healthy Geno Smith. With Smith now in Las Vegas, Seattle has revamped its quarterback room, bringing in both Sam Darnold and Drew Lock. GM John Schneider said earlier this week that Howell would compete with Lock for the backup QB role, but the organization's reported willingness to deal Howell suggests that Lock has the inside track on the job. Howell could be an intriguing option for teams in need of a backup QB -- despite his struggles in a very limited sample last season (he completed just five of those 14 pass attempts), he has ample experience as a starter, completing 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,946 yards and a 21:21 TD:INT over 17 regular-season games with Washington in 2023.
Sam Howell
Sam Howell Competing for backup job
Thu, Apr 17, 2025, 9:16 PM
Howell will compete for the No. 2 job behind Sam Darnold after the Seahawks signed Drew Lock on Friday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: GM John Schneider added that he looks forward to Howell's development in the new scheme after the Seahawks fired OC Ryan Grubb after just one season and replaced him with Klint Kubiak. Schneider also stated that Lock's arrival doesn't mean the team won't add another quarterback during the draft. Howell played just 25 snaps during 2024, completing five of 14 passes for 24 yards and an interception. Such a small sample size isn't determinative of Howell's future, however, as he was a serviceable option in Washington in 2023 with 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in addition to five rushing scores. Meanwhile, Lock's career numbers aren't much better, but he has familiarity with the organization and may be a more steady backup as the Seahawks look to perform a quick rebuild with Darnold's lead.
Drew Lock
Drew Lock Reunites with Seattle
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 2:15 PM
Lock agreed to terms Friday on a contract with the Seahawks, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Lock struggled amid less than ideal circumstances with the Giants last year, completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,071 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions across eight regular-season appearances. He now returns to Seattle, where in he suited up for four regular-season games in 2023 and looked modestly better while mustering a 63.0 percent completion rate, 543 passing yards, three touchdowns and three INTs. The 28-year-old figures to spend the offseason competing with Sam Howell for the top backup gig behind Sam Darnold.
